James Johanns’ primary emphasis is commercial litigation, including contract, trademark and environmental liability issues. He has experience successfully representing both plaintiffs and defendants at the trial and appellate level in the state and federal courts of Texas. Notably, James was a key member of the firm’s trial team in the successful defense of Halliburton in connection with all civil litigation and investigations concerning BP’s Macondo well blowout (Deepwater Horizon) in the Gulf of Mexico, the largest environmental lawsuit in the history of the United States. Prior to beginning his private practice, James served as the law clerk to Justice Susan Larsen of the Texas Court of Appeals-Eighth Judicial District in El Paso after graduation from law school.
Reflecting the excellence of his legal practice, James has been selected multiple times to the list of Texas Rising Stars by Thomson Reuters, honoring the top young attorneys in the state.
